Tour Itinerary

Day 01 : Ahmedabad – Bhuj

Arrive Ahmedabad airport/ railway station, you will be met and transferred by road to Bhuj. The historic city of Bhuj is a typical example of a desert town located between two geographical features - Bhujiyo Dungar on the east & Hamirsar Lake on the west. Bhuj, with its surrounding wall, atmospheric bazaar areas, crenelated gateways, old palaces and striking temples still retains a medieval character. Overnight at your hotel in Bhuj.

Early this morning depart on a full day tour of Village Safari – visit the last few villages on the India-Pakistan border. Start with the village of Bhirandiyara for a taste of the exquisite Maavo and see the skillfully decorated, colourful Mud huts known as Bhungas. Continue to Nirona, the only place in the world where the tradition of Rogan art - an art of cloth printing wherein the paint are made of boiled oil and vegetable dyes is still practiced. Later visit Khavda, where one can find a tiny market and a few stalls serving up Kutchi snacks & tea. Continue to Ludiya Village, which is comprised of several hamlets belonging to the Meghwal & Samma Communities. Finally visit Dhordo village comprising of the Mutva community famous worldwide for the ‘Banni’ Handicrafts. There craftsmanship and artistic works are so exquisite that many of the craftsmen have been honoured with national awards. Overnight at your hotel in Bhuj.

This morning drive to Jamnagar or the city of Jams, which was once the most important princely states of Saurashtra. It is now famous for its Bandhani fabrics and Zari work. On arrival in Jamnagar, proceed to visit the impressive Pratap Vilas Palace, the 16th century Darbargarh Palace, the Willingdon Crescent and the museum at Lakota Island Palace. Later visit Bala Hanuman Temple – a world famous temple, known for the continuous chanting of Jai Ram, Shri Ram. The chanting is going on since 1964 and has found a place for it in the Guinness Book of World Records. Overnight at your hotel in Jamnagar.

Drive to Dwarka – a small coastal town. Dwarka is one of the four most holy Hindu pilgrimage sites in India. It is here that Krishna founded his capital after leaving Mathura. The multi pillared Sabha Mandapa leads to a 60-pillared sanctum sanctorum that dates back 2500 years according to the scriptures. Later visit Bet Dwarka or Shankhodhar, Nageshwar Temple, Rukmani Temple and Gomati Talav and Gomti Dham Temple. Overnight at your hotel in Dwarka.

Attend an early morning aarti at the Dwarkadhish Temple and later proceed by road to Somnath. Enroute visit Porbunder, the coastal heritage town described in Skanda Purana as Sudamapuri and Ashmavati. Porbandar had a flourishing trade with Africa, Arabia and the most impressive feature of the city is the stone building with ashlar masonry and rich carvings. Visit Kirti Mandir – the house of the Mahatma and Kasturba Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi was born in Porbandar. Later continue to drive to Somnath. It consists of few streets leading away from its phoenix like shore temple of Somnath. It is one of the twelve most sacred shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. Later visit the ruins of the Rudreshwar Temple. Overnight at your hotel in Somnath.

Start the day with a drive to Diu. A beautiful blend of sun, sand and sea - Diu is a picture of tranquility with superb beaches and a fascinating history. Visit St. Paul’s Church, adorned with curiously treated volutes & shell-like motifs and the magnificent woodcarving it is considered the most elaborate of all the Portuguese churches in India. Continue the journey to St. Thomas Church and Museum – a huge edifice in gothic architecture built in 1598. End the day with a visit to Diu Fort and Nagoa beach. Overnight at your hotel in Diu.

Check out and drive towards Ahmedabad. Located on the banks of the river Sabarmati; the city was founded by Sultan Ahmad Shah in 1411. One of the fastest growing cities of India and is an immense repository of tradition, history & culture. Its famous walled area is one of the finest examples of community living and is home to some of the finest Indo-Sarcenic mosques & Jain temples. Overnight at your hotel in Ahmedabad.

Proceed for city tour of Ahmedabad, visiting the Gandhi Ashram - it was from here, that the Mahatma began his famous Dandi March to the sea to protest against the Salt Tax imposed by the British. Continue to Sidi Sayed Mosque, celebrated the world over for its exquisite stone window tracery – a superb & peerless example of delicate carving that transforms stone into filigree. Visit the Jumma Masjid, built by the city’s founder, Sultan Ahmed Shah, in 1423. It stands on 260 pillars that support 15 domes at varying elevations. Continue to the Teen Darwaja, the triple-arched gateway was built by Sultan Ahmed Shah to serve as the royal entrance to the Maidan Shahi. Visit the Hutheesing Temple, remarkably elegant temple created out of white marble has been sacred to many Jain families. See the Adalaj Step-well, before proceeding to Akshardham, built in traditional Indian architectural style from 6,000 metric tons of pink Rajasthan sandstone. There is a gold leaf copper sculpture of Lord Swaminarayan. Overnight at your hotel in Ahmedabad.
